ACTEGA announces executive appointments – spanning printing inks, coatings and allied industries

ACTEGA, a manufacturer of specialty coatings, inks, adhesives and sealants for the printing and packaging industry, has announced several senior management appointments. These include the appointment of Jan Franz Allerkamp as head of the Global Business Line Paper & Board of ACTEGA and the external hiring of the former member of the Heidelberg board of directors, Stephan Plenz, as as Acting Managing Director of ACTEGA Metal Print.

The appointment of these experienced and talented business leaders reflects ACTEGA’s commitment to its clients and its constant drive for innovation and sustainable solutions for the graphic arts industry.

From October 1, 2021, Allerkamp, who was previously Managing Director of ACTEGA Metal Print, will assume the role of Global Business Line Head for ACTEGA’s Paper & Board activity. Allerkamp replaces Andreas Gipp who, after successfully setting up the Paper and Cardboard Business Line, will become the third Managing Director (CCO) of ECKART, another division of the ALTANA group, effective October 1.

“After four and a half years in my role in metal printing, I would like to take the chance to take on a new challenge,” Allerkamp said. “Although the Paper & Cardboard Business Line was only founded two years ago, a lot has been achieved by the team. Andreas did a great job putting the structure in place and building a well-managed organization and a strong team.

“As a result, Papier et Carton is a company on an upward trajectory. For example, its barrier coatings initiative has enormous potential and the folding box market, with its mega trend towards increased durability, also represents major growth for us and for our customers, ”Allerkamp continued.

Plenz joins ACTEGA Metal Print as Interim Managing Director. Having worked for Heidelberg for over 30 years and as a previous member of the board of directors, Plenz was responsible for several business divisions in Heidelberg, including sheet-fed printing, labels, post-press and digital. With a background in mechanical engineering and sustainability close to his heart, Plenz is uniquely positioned to build on EcoLeaf’s success and bring it to market.

“With Stephan, we have acquired someone with the right experience to seamlessly fulfill the role of ACTEGA Metal Print and to take EcoLeaf technology from a successful beta program to commercialization,” said Thorsten Kröller, President of ACTEGA. “I am also happy to keep Jan Franz in our division in another important leadership role for our Paper & Board business. Keeping and attracting the right industry experts plays an important role for us. In this way, we can continue all of our important initiatives for more sustainability in our industry, as these need people who understand the market to be successful. “

“EcoLeaf is such an important technology, ready to remove sheet waste from the traditional metallization process – it will change the market forever,” Plenz said. “To achieve this, and after the beta phase, our next big step is to industrialize the solution. This is where I will use my experience in bringing technologies to market, to allow a smooth and successful ramp-up in series. “
