Daily Press to keep the print publication for 7 days, home delivery

The Daily Press will continue to print seven days a week with home delivery by carriers after hearing meaningful feedback from readers and advertisers on plans to change our delivery frequency.

At the same time, our newsroom is adding new digital offerings, including weekly sports and news email newsletters for many of our local communities.

“All of our readers – from our print products and our digital platforms – are important to us,” said local editor James Ward. “This decision to rescind the proposed print discounts underscores our commitment to our subscribers on whatever platform they want to engage with our content, whether in print or digital form.”

Gannett, the parent company of the Daily Press, last month announced plans to cut printing to two days a week, Thursday and Saturday, and switch from carrier delivery to delivery by the US Postal Service, from from the end of June.

The reaction of subscribers and advertising clients to the planned changes prompted a reconsideration of these plans.

At the same time, the Daily Press is moving forward with expanding its digital efforts, including adding several new e-newsletters delivered to the inboxes of readers who sign up.

The new newsletters, which are expected to start at the end of June, include:

  • The best of the daily press: Our best stories, investigations and findings sent weekly from the editor’s desk.
  • Beyond the box Our top stories from the High Desert sports scene sent weekly.
  • Your week in Barstow: Our top Barstow stories, sent weekly.
  • Your week at Hesperia: Our best Hesperia stories, sent weekly.
  • Your week in the Lucerne Valley: Our best stories about the Lucerne Valley, sent weekly.
