“In very few years, it has risen to a level where more than 200 books in English and Tamil are available in the library. Moreover, one of the main features of this library is that it comprises more of 10,000 newspaper collections from the 1990s, including important Supreme Court judgments, government orders and decisions, transgender Nalavaariyam meeting minutes and more about the community,” he said. she stated.
Priya Babu, being transgender herself, hails from Madurai district. She was a librarian for many years and her idea of creating a separate library exclusively for the transgender community came to life with the inauguration of this business.
Supporting the social responsibility of the transgender community, Priya Babu actively engages in collecting various sources of books written by transgender people.
The library is clustered with rows of shelves and resources from various genres covered by trans authors, and being an author herself, she has contributed extensively to the representation of the trans community in her publications.
The number of scholars coming under the umbrella of this library has been increasing day by day.
“The library has become a fruitful resource for more than 180 students, doctoral students, researchers and film industry. Even students from Kerala and Mumbai use this library for their month-long internships and for learning purposes,” she said.
As a next big step, the company has launched its own online magazine named “Trans News” so that students can access publications remotely.
Priya Babu has also launched “Trans Publications” for authors in the trans community, allowing them to publish books for free. Books on trans community topics are also published for free under this provision.
